permaculture design in action
with Sam parker-davies
Meet SamSam is a permaculture designer, student, farmer, teacher, and consultant from the Blue Mountains, and the Northern Rivers, NSW, Australia. Sam has taught and consulted in 12 countries in 4 different continents. Working with the most vulnerable members of our globe, and those most able to create large-scale change, Sam has devoted his life to creating the greatest benefit he can.
About Sam Sam was introduced to the concepts of regenerative design and permaculture from a young age, helping his grandfather on his community farm and his grandmother design and garden the houses she developed. However it wasn't until his Permaculture Design Course teachers, Rosemary Morrow, and Lis Bastian introduced him to the design science of permaculture, did he realise how profoundly regenerative design could change the trajectory of the whole planet. When Sam became aware that good design could be the difference between immense suffering for many or joyful lives it didn't take much for him to give it his whole life. Sam moved to the Permaculture Research Institute of Australia, Zaytuna, to live with permaculture pioneer Geoff Lawton, at the end of 2017. Living from the land on this farm is the closest thing to a university education Sam has received, and he thinks it's much more valuable.
Sam is currently traveling the world to learn more about the knowledge most deeply needed for today's society, as well as giving courses and implementing designs. Regenerative agroforestry, bioremediation, landscape restoration, broad-scale landscape design, water engineering, city design, soil science and food production are Sam's major focuses in implementation and education. Sam is currently based in the middle-east studying dryland and desert restoration, and regenerative response to war. He is also working in Europe with on design solutions for the refugee crisis, and with farmers to create regenerative impacts on their land. After Europe he will leave for South America to study the restoration of the forests in the humid tropics. You can contact and support Sam at [email protected] |
Permaculture is a revolution disguised as gardening. It illuminates the utterly simple solutions to the problems of our world that would otherwise seem so vast. Through simple logic, permaculture combines landcare and social sciences to fast track our societal succession to the best possible reality. Using simple but ingenious design techniques we can make the physical world of our farms, cities, and suburbs to be productive, connected, paradisiacal places that exceed our needs.
Through the empowerment of individuals, the redistribution of knowledge and power, by redesigning our governance, economic and social structures we can make our societies the greatest solution. “Though the problems of the world are increasingly complex, the solutions remain embarrassingly simple.” Bill Mollison, father of permaculture. |
